The D-AQUI is not only a legend as an original. As a Herpa model in 1:160 scale, it has also been part of the Herpa Wings range almost without interruption since the beginning. It received its first certification as the D-AQUI on 6 April 1936 and flew for Deutsche Luft Hansa until 1945 with a brief interruption. After the end of the Second World War, it remained in commercial service in Norway until the mid-1950s, before being sold to Ecuador, where it continued to carry passengers and freight for a number of years until it was parked in Quito in 1962. There, a few years later, US privateers discovered the wreck, renovated the aircraft and presented the Ju-52 at air shows as "Iron Annie". In 1984, Lufthansa finally acquired the aircraft to restore it for the upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations. Until 2018, "Auntie Ju" delighted thousands of spectators at air shows and more than 1,000 passengers on sightseeing flights over Germany until it was initially put into storage in 2019. Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Lufthansa, it will form the main attraction of the Lufthansa Group's new conference and visitor centre together with the legendary Lockheed Super Star from spring 2026. To mark the anniversary, the classic is now being relaunched in a new edition with redesigned packaging.
