After examining the uniforms of the French Guards' artillerymen on foot, as well as those of the British, Dutch, Prussian and Hanoverian-Oldenburg general staff officers, the main section uses accounts from battlefield participants and eyewitnesses to describe the final phase of the Battle of Waterloo. The desperate resistance of the Old Guard and other French regiments is described alongside the meeting between Blücher and Wellington at La Belle Alliance and the situation after the battle.
