After the construction of the Teltow Canal at the beginning of the 20th century, Teltow, located in the south of Berlin, developed into an up-and-coming industrial location. This scholarly monograph sheds light for the first time on the town's history between 1933 and 1945. Hardly any other town in Brandenburg has been so comprehensively researched with regard to the Nazi era. Despite difficult source conditions, more than ten years of research have made it possible to compile an overview of structures, developments and key figures. The volume describes the rise and development of the Teltow NSDAP local group and other Nazi organisations, the activities of the town council and the municipal administration, the role of the churches and the dramatic events of the last months of the war and the beginning of the Soviet occupation. A special focus is placed on the perpetrators and victims of the terror perpetrated by the SA and SS, which particularly affected political opponents, Jews, disabled people, homosexuals and forced labourers.
