Meeting at Tilsit 1807

After the defeat of Austria and Prussia, the only opponent left for Napoleon on the continent was Russia. On 8 February 1807, the Battle of Eylau/East Prussia took place, in which there were neither winners nor losers due to the high losses on both sides.
It was only Napoleon's victory at Friedland on 14 June 1807 that forced the Tsar to negotiate. On 7 July 1807, France and Russia signed the Peace of Tilsit.
Based on a painting by Pierre Nolasque Bergeret, the piece depicts a meeting between Napoleon Bonaparte and Tsar Alexander I as it might have taken place in June/July 1807.
At Napoleon's side, Grand Duke Constantine presents the emperor with representatives of the nationalities in his Cossack troops, who were known as the eyes and ears of the Russian army. Napoleon, accompanied by General Murat and an orderly officer, gazes in wonder at the colourful crowd. In the front row, an Astrakhan Cossack (Turkoman) wearing the typical black fur cap and caftan salutes. Behind him, two Bashkirs, wearing a cloth bag as a headdress and wrapped in a caftan, with an ankhu (belt whip). Furthermore, a Bashkir, a Kalmyk and a Circassian are represented.
The French delegation can be expanded with figures from the series The Death of General Duroc, e.g. with Berthier and Caulaincourt.
