In many ways the equal of the Avro Lancaster, the Halifax has always been somewhat overshadowed by the legendary Lancaster, despite being an integral part of RAF Bomber Command throughout the Second World War. This first volume covers early Merlin engine variants, which are virtually all Mk. I and the Series I Mk.II and Mk.V. Or to put it another way, all with the bow tower and triangular fins.
One of the main features that the early Halifaxes were known for was their multitude of dents. Here the author has carefully identified them all for the first time, figured out why they were there, and in subsequent volumes you will see how they were all removed to create the elegant Mk.III.
