Volume 35 of the "Wingleader Photo Archive" series. The twin-engined Wellington bomber is one of the most photographed British aeroplanes of WW2. It was, of course, a very advanced and photogenic aircraft of its day (replacing the obsolete Heyford and other biplanes) and entered service just as the press was rediscovering its interest in the armed forces as the country prepared for war. Another important factor that is not widely known is that the Wellington was the third most produced RAF aircraft in history, with almost 11,500 built. With this in mind, the creators have decided to give the old "Wimpy" the attention it deserves. This first book therefore deals only with the very early examples, the Mk.I and Mk.Ia. As usual, Bomber Command expert Peter Allam was asked to take on this classic bomber, and he has done a fine job in uncovering some fine details and idiosyncrasies of these early Mk models, including the "SCI" and "DWI" missions.
