Hare, Paul R. RAF BE2/BE2a/BE2b

It is fitting that in this opening centenary year of WWI, the first 2014-published "Datafile" concentrates on the very first Royal Aircraft Factory BE series, one of these being among the first RFC aeroplanes to arrive in France just after hostilities began in August. The author, Paul R. Hare, is a noted specialist on the WWI RAF Farnborough designs and has produced a fine pictorial record of these pioneering reconnaissance biplanes. Their full development history is supported by over 70 archive photos with nine pages of accurate GA drawings by Mick Davis that not only graphically illustrate the development cycle of these early BEs, but also provide 1:48 and 1:72 scale plans of the unequal-span BE2a version as well as the later BE2b:structural drawings form a part of the set-all based on original 1914 Factory blueprints.
In addition, Ronny Bar provides three hyper-detailed colour profiles and on the inner covers are colour close-ups of Hendon's superb reproduction BE2a providing further invaluable fare for the modeller. All topped off by Paul Monteagle's evocative cover painting-The RFC Goes To War!

There are also descriptions of the Spanish version of the BE2a and the later variant of the BE2b. Structural drawings of the aeroplanes form another part of the work, based on the manufacturers' original 1914 designs. In addition, Ronny Bar provides three highly detailed colour profiles, and on the inside covers of the publication are colour close-ups of Hendon's superb reproduction of a BE2a, providing the modeller with another invaluable look at this aircraft. Rounding off the complete work is Paul Monteagle's cover image "The RFC Goes To War!".
