This book is the first comprehensive German-language work on the Flieger-Kappmesser of the German Wehrmacht. The development history of the legendary rescue and combat knife up to the last Bundeswehr version is described in detail. Beginning with the Solinger Metallwaren-Fabrik, all manufacturers who produced this knife until the end of the 1960s are presented.
For the collector, the presentation of a total of 28 different original models and also the two known forgeries is of the greatest interest. Information on the use of the crosscut knife by the troops rounds off this work. In painstaking detail work, the author was able to reconstruct hitherto hardly known details about the Army's troop trials in the winter of 1943/44 and about its subsequent use by the German ski hunters. The included eyewitness accounts confirm the deliberate use of the knife as an efficient close combat weapon. Rare photographs show the Flieger-Kappmesser in use by soldiers of the German Wehrmacht.
