Blank weapons combined with pistols have always been a marginal feature in the history of arms. Yet they have existed almost as long as firearms themselves. Time and again, skilled technicians tried to improve the effect of one weapon by combining it with another. One reason may have been to compensate for inadequate fencing skills with a shot. Or to be able to continue fighting with a knife in case their bullet missed. Therefore, there are examples of these curious weapons from many centuries. And even today, pistol knives are still manufactured in small series for secret services and special units, but also as a niche product for the civilian market. This book presents exemplary pistol knives from different eras. It also examines the causes that led to the development of these combined weapons at different times and attempts to reconstruct their practicality.
