Representing the women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, Rosie the Riveter was more than a cultural icon - she was the embodiment of grit and determination. The 1942 US poster "We Can Do It!" shows her sleeves rolled up and ready to work. During the war, the U.S. labor force was nearly 37% female with one out of every four married women working outside the home.
