Like so many men, Pearl Harbour impelled George Herbert Walker Bush into War. He joined the United States Navy as a pilot and in 1942 was engaged in one of the largest air battles of World War II: The Battle of the Phillipine Sea. Through 1944, he flew 58 combat missions where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation.
