The Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) was much more than "just" a railway company. In addition to its own ocean-going and inland waterway vessels, DB had a large fleet of motor vehicles, including trucks, buses, tractors, road transporters and heavy goods vehicles. Especially the latter three are hardly known. This book therefore aims to give the reader a picture of the comprehensive services that the DB provided in the road transport sector, the vehicles it used, how the interfaces with the railways functioned and the considerable scope of this service.

The second volume focuses on heavy goods transport, which is presented and documented in all its diversity using impressive, unpublished photographic material. Be it heavy machinery, boilers, pipes, transformers, even ships and aeroplanes, there was hardly any freight that DB did not transport by road. A special chapter deals with the trajectory of locomotives of all types, other traction units, passenger and freight wagons as well as light railways and trams by means of heavy-duty road vehicles. The book thus fills another gap in railway history documentation.
