This double volume is now the 3rd part of the comprehensive complete work on the imperial Austrian awards. While the 1st part dealt exclusively with the imperial orders, the 2nd part covered the other wearable state awards, the now concluding 3rd part deals with the non-governmental awards of Austria(-Hungary). Many of these decorations, such as those for services to the Red Cross or the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta of the Grand Priory of Bohemia and Austria or the Teutonic Order with the Marian Cross, are still very well known today. The same probably applies to the insignia of the Tyrolean nobility. In contrast, the badges of honour of the Austrian ladies' monasteries, the Ganerb and Imperial Knighthoods as well as the Order of St. Hubert of the Counts of Sporck or the Salzburg Order of St. Rupert are hardly known. In more than 26 comprehensive chapters, among them for example those on the Austrian horse breeding medals, the medals of honour of the Hungarian provincial fire brigade association, the Salvator and manoeuvre medals, both the latest research results and the corresponding illustrations have been summarised. The 3rd part is also accompanied by a pictorial identification aid as a complete index of all order and honour/badges considered in this five-volume complete work, which enables even the non-specialist to easily identify real pieces and to read up on them in the respective specialised chapters.
