Contributions to History. Special issue 28 of the series "Deutsches Atlantik Wall Archiv". Focusing on the planning and construction of the Weserforts from 1867 onwards, the author uses newly discovered archive material to clarify important questions of German armour plate development, manufacture and assembly. Illustrations from the Krupp and Gruson works archives take the reader back to an age that set the trend for modern fortification technology with its development of defensive weapons. Modern photos show the structural remains of the works before their future decay. In addition to the technical side, the hard lot of the workers employed on the construction sites is also made vivid.
