The fencing book of Peter von Danzig dates from 1452 and is one of the most extensive and important collections of medieval martial arts. It contains, among other things, techniques for the long sword with and without armour, for fighting with sword and buckler, as well as for wrestling and dagger fighting. The book is aimed at anyone interested in medieval practical prose and, of course, especially at the modern adepts of Master Liechtenauer who are nowadays trying to bring the old European martial arts of our ancestors back to life. They are hereby provided with a helpful and weighty companion book for their work. The present volume offers the complete text of manuscript 44 A 8 twice: once in a transcription true to the letter and once in a translation into modern German. The work is rounded off by a glossary and a bibliography.
