Since the Second World War, black, red and gold have been the national colours for both German states, but it was not until German reunification that the dispute over flags, which had lasted for more than 200 years, finally came to an end. The frequent change of national colours in the 19th and 20th centuries, combined with the change of state symbolism of the respective epoch through colours, shapes and signs, is comprehensively presented in this book - not only through stories on the history of German national flags, but also through hundreds of colour illustrations of the different flags with information on appearance, proportions and intended use. The flag history of the old and new federal states is dealt with in particular detail.
