For 25 years, the author has been researching Knight's Cross recipients in general and the awarding procedures in particular. Over the years, he has repeatedly come across legitimate awards where something did not seem right. He then subjected these awards to a particularly thorough and time-consuming in-depth examination. The results were mostly shocking. There were awards, for example, based on rivalry among the armed forces, on protection from the highest authorities, for political and diplomatic reasons, with fabricated military exploits as special recognition for other achievements or as a gift from the Führer, etc. In this book, 29 cases are discussed in detail.
