Long before today's widespread MRAPs found their way into e.g. the U.S. Army or the British Army, the Allschutztransportfahrzeug (ATF) "Dingo 1" was introduced in the Bundeswehr in order to provide German soldiers with a vehicle for the escalating threat situations on foreign missions that had to become the almost ideal combination of mine protection, armour and speed. With the ATF "Dingo 1" it was possible for the first time to offer the troops a vehicle between the mobility of the light unarmoured "Wolf" and the armour protection of the armoured transport vehicle "Fuchs". This publication shows the development of the ATF "Dingo 1", allows a look into the vehicle's technology and presents its variants such as the "Emu" and "Kuckuck". Above all, however, it shows the ATF "Dingo 1" in national and international Bundeswehr service.
