The Return of Russia's Red Square Military Parades 2008-2009. In the Soviet Union, the Red Square parades were an annual spectacle eagerly awaited by foreign military observers, as they showcased the latest Soviet weaponry. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, these parades were abandoned. It was not until May 2008 that Russian tanks, armoured personnel carriers, guns and anti-aircraft vehicles again thundered across Red Square - the first parade of a new Russia in the 21st century. The event was repeated in 2009. This publication shows the Russian military vehicles from the parades of both years in large-format photos, allowing a close look at the latest Russian land forces weaponry.
