The influence of Ramses III on the early history of Israel. Ramses III (11871156 BC) was the last great pharaoh. With him, the heyday of Egyptian world power came to an end. He is best known for his battles against the Philistines and the Battle of the Sea Peoples, while his other Asian foreign policy has received little attention in Egyptology or in the context of the cultural history of Israel. This book covers all of Ramses III's activities in the southern Levant and shows the consequences of his foreign policy, as well as the collapse of Egyptian rule in the Levant, for the early history of Israel.
