The Arlbergbahn is one of the most breathtaking mountain railways in Europe. Planned by Julius Lott, the high-alpine railway was built between 1880 and 1884. Even today, 125 years after its opening, most of the trains still run on the historic line. Christof Thöny from the Klostertal Museum Association and Günter Denoth from the Tyrol Transport Archive have compiled more than 200 previously unpublished photographs in a historical illustrated book to mark the anniversary. It recalls the early pioneering achievements and depicts the transformation of the region that the construction of this European transport axis triggered. The impressive photographs not only show the railway, but also convey a vivid impression of the charm of the landscape and life with and along the Arlberg Railway.
