The town of Lüdenscheid, whose industrial development was strongly influenced by the button industry, supplied armed forces on land, at sea and in the air with uniform buttons. They reflect political history, fundamental historical change and a central aspect of European cultural history, namely the process of militarisation in its most diverse manifestations.
