In this book, the first biography of the MOVM, Umberto Bardelli (Livorno 1908 - Ozegna 1944), Naval Engineer Officer, creator and Commander of the Barbarigo Battalion of the Tenth MAS Flotilla, the author meticulously reconstructs the military career of Commander Bardelli and examines in detail from his beginnings in the Royal Navy, which saw him as a protagonist in the fitting out and cruises of numerous submarines in 1930-1940 and then to his warships as Chief Engineer, for which he was awarded two Bronze Medals for Military Valor and a War Cross for Military Valor. The second part of the biography covers his activities after September 1943, from his missions in Trieste and Pola to his enlistment in the Decima Flottiglia MAS, his essential role in the formation of the Maestrale Battalion, then Barbarigo, the Battalion Command in Anzio/Nettuno , the organization of the 1st FM San Marco Regiment of the Decima MAS, until its tragic end in Ozegna. The book is based on the consultation of unpublished archive documents, such as the service record of Major GN Bardelli, of contemporary sources, such as the rare volume "Il Comandante Bardelli", published in July 1944, both reproduced entirely in the appendix, and testimonies of the family members of Commander Bardelli and of veterans of the X MAS. Also included are unpublished photos of Umberto Bardelli as a GN Officer in the Royal Navy and drawings by Claudio Cherini and Lieutenant GN Attilio Giuliani.
