Preußischer General. Gerhard Johann David von Scharnhorst (* 12 November 1755 in Bordenau, today part of Neustadt am Rübenberge; until 28 June 1813 in Prague) was a Prussian general. Along with August Count Neidhardt von Gneisenau, he was - as chairman of the Militär Reorganisation Commission since July 1807 - the decisive organiser of the momentous Preußische army reform. Since he most clearly recognised the connection between military reform and social change, he is still considered the most exemplary of the military reformers of the period of the wars of liberation. -Wikipedia-
