Erich von Manstein (1887-1973) is regarded as Hitler's most capable general, to whom the Wehrmacht owes some of its greatest successes. To this day, his name is associated with the French campaign of 1940 and the events at the focal points of the war against the Soviet Union (Crimea, Stalingrad, Kursk). In this edition, Roman Töppel presents the general's previously unpublished private war diaries and letters to his wife and embeds these important sources in a comprehensive research work on Manstein's campaigns from the war years 1939-1941.
