Carl von Clausewitz is a classic of military and political theory; his writings belong to world literature. For the first time, the author makes the wealth of his thought accessible systematically, close to the original texts - and yet in a generally understandable way for a wide range of readers. Clausewitz is often quoted, but little read and even less understood. Above all, it has been misunderstood that his theory was not developed as a catalogue of rules for "correct" warfare, but as a critical observation for the training of judgement.
As such, it still stimulates independent thinking today and offers assistance in the intellectual penetration of the phenomenon of war. Christian Th. Müller gives an overview of Clausewitz's life and work, discusses his concept of war and his understanding of theory. Subsequently, essential aspects of his theory such as "Strategy and Tactics", "Attack and Defence", "Little War and People's War" are explained. In this way, on the one hand, the reading of his main work "On War" should be facilitated and, on the other hand, Clausewitz's theory as a tool of critical analysis should be brought closer to the readers.
