150 years ago, on 1 September 1870, the decisive battle of the Franco-Prussian War took place at Sedan. It ended a campaign that is considered the last "classic" Napoleonic-style campaign. At the same time, Sedan also marked the birth of Prussian-German arrogance towards the "hereditary enemy". This was to be bitterly avenged in 1914.
