More than 300,000 prisoners of war, mostly Soviet, passed through Stammlager 326 (VI K) in Stukenbrock-Senne during the Second World War under inhumane conditions. A long shadow of memory lies over this aspect of German criminal history, as Federal President Joachim Gauck put it in 2015 during his much-noticed visit to the memorial. He called for more historical research and education. This volume is the first to summarise the four central themes of the camp's history: sources and research perspectives, camp topography, prisoner-of-war status, and historical politics and remembrance culture.
