The attack of the XXth US Corps from the Saale bridgeheads to the Allied holding line from Rochlitz on the Zwickauer Mulde to Chemnitz and the occupation of eastern Thuringia and parts of western Saxony. This book from the series "The End of the War in Central Germany 1945" concludes the documentation of the advance of the XXth U.S. Corps of the 3rd U.S. Army with an account of the path of the 4th and 6th U.S. Armoured Divisions and the 76th and 80th U.S. Infantry Divisions from the Saale bridgeheads near Bad Kösen, Camburg and Jena through eastern Thuringia and parts of western Saxony to the Allied holding line between Rochlitz on the Zwickauer Mulde and Chemnitz. In doing so, it follows on from the two previous books on the XX U.S. Corps and supplements the previously published books on the Saale-Unstrut region, the occupation of Zeitz and Weißenfels and the southern Leipzig area.

The book is a continuation of the account of the advance of the XX U.S. Corps of the 3rd U.S. Army to the Allied Halt Line. Army to the Allied Halt Line between Rochlitz on the Zwickauer Mulde and the Chemnitz area in April 1945 and deals with the advance of the southern attack wedge of the Corps along the axis of the Reichsautobahn from Gotha to the Saale near Jena and the occupation of the cities of Erfurt, Weimar and Jena.
