Sami and reindeer

The Sámi people (/'s??mi/; also spelled Sami or Saami) are an indigenous Finno-Ugric people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden , Finland, and the Kola Peninsula within the Murmansk Oblast of Russia. The Sámi have historically been known in English as Lapps or Laplanders.
Gakti are the traditional clothing worn by the Sámi people. The gákti is worn both in ceremonial contexts and while working, particularly when herding reindeer.
Reindeer husbandry has been and still is an important aspect of Sámi culture. Traditionally the Sámi lived and worked in reindeer herding groups called siiddat, which consisted of several families and their herds.
Our series shows samis (men, women and children) in their costumes during typical activities. They lead reindeer with sledges, steer the pulka, catch animals with the lasso, build tents, rest with tea and a tobacco pipe. Many reindeer and accessories (high storage rack, stick fences, campfire and cooking fire, drying rack) complete this interesting scene.

The Sámi (outdated Lapps) are an indigenous people in northern Fennoscandia. Their settlement area stretches from the Swedish municipality of Idre in the province of Dalarnas län in the south through the northern parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland and northeast to the coasts of the White Sea and the Barents Sea in Russia.
