Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (b. probably 1 May 1769 in Dublin, Ireland; 14 September 1852 at Walmer Castle near Deal, Kent, England), was a field marshal and the outstanding British military leader of the Napoleonic period, as well as British foreign minister and twice prime minister. He was victorious over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.
