After the World War, the state railways in East and West went their separate ways. This had a lasting effect on the construction and maintenance of steam and diesel locomotives. This book not only briefly and competently describes all steam locomotive and diesel locomotive series of the GDR, but it also explains why the Deutsche Reichsbahn developed its steam and diesel locomotives differently than the Deutsche Bundesbahn did. The elaborate repair techniques and the new and reconstructed steam locomotive series are taken into account, as are the diesel locomotives procured from the USSR.
