The German Reichsbahn 1949-1990.
After the Second World War, the German Reichsbahn retained its name in the Soviet-occupied zone. Despite dismantling and other obstacles, the "railway in the hands of the people" became the most important mode of transport in the GDR. With technical innovations such as the Reko steam locomotives and the V 180, it advanced railway operations. This volume offers a comprehensive look back at the DR: its routes, its locomotives (the steam and electric locomotives, the city express trains and the nostalgic narrow-gauge railways) and, last but not least, the everyday life of the railwaymen.
