This illustrated book features rare photographs of Japanese Navy capital ships in World War 2. It begins with photographs of the heavy cruisers (Kako, Furutaka, Kinugasa, Aoba, Myôkô, Nachi, Ashigara, Haguro, Chikuma), then moves on to the light cruisers (Tenryu, Tatsuta, Yubari, Kinu, Sakawa) and concludes the section of historical photographs with a 40-page section on the battleship "Yamato". Some of the aerial photographs shown are particularly dramatic because they often show the Japanese ships at the moment of an enemy bombing raid. Some photos also illustrate the sometimes severe destruction caused to the ships by on-board weapon fire and bombs. The colour section shows, among other things, photographs of the spectacular 1:10 scale model of the "Yamato" in the Naval Museum in Kure, underwater photographs of the sunk heavy cruiser "Haguro" as well as some historical photographs of damaged ships in the harbour of Kure.
