The advent of surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and fire control radar in the early 1950s posed a threat many times greater than the previous bombardment from machine guns and anti-aircraft guns. This threat became a reality during the Vietnam War when the North Vietnamese deployed the Soviet SAM SA-2 "Guideline" (S-75), which shot down numerous US aircraft. The USAF, feeling threatened by this, developed a strategy to take out enemy air defences, including SAMs. This is SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defences).
The focus of these dangerous missions is to locate and destroy enemy air defence positions, including their radar installations. For this purpose, the US Air Force has equipped its aircraft with special detection and weapon systems. These aircraft bear the additional designation "Wild Weasel". In addition to the development, history and use of the "Wild Weasel" aircraft, the book presents a series of corresponding model kits in 1/72nd, 1/48th and 1/32nd scale, including two anti-aircraft missile systems (SA-2 and SA-3).
