Description
Camouflage paints and distinguishing marks of German tanks from 1935 to 1945.
This booklet presents in detail the colours, camouflage patterns and insignia of German armoured vehicles in the years immediately before and especially during World War II. The armoured vehicles of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS as well as their insignia and markings are presented with the help of many colour profiles and detailed illustrations as well as some contemporary colour photographs. A short text provides information on the development of German paint patterns in the period in question and the captions list the vehicle type, unit, place and year of deployment as well as the colours used for the paint.
This monograph is mainly devoted to the camouflage paints of German tanks and military vehicles during the Second World War. Although several decades have passed since the events of the Second World War, this period still arouses great interest, especially the armour technology of the time.
By camouflage or "camouflage" - a word with French origins ± we mean the way of masking the war material in such a way that the enemy has difficulty in detecting and identifying it. It is therefore a matter of changing the appearance of people or objects in such a way that it is possible to operate almost unnoticed in front of the enemy in the field. This can be achieved in a variety of ways: by hiding the object to be camouflaged under branches, tarpaulins, nets and other materials, by using paints with asymmetrical patterns or even by means of dust, mud, stones, snow, etc.
This booklet explains the camouflage colours used, analyses some of the designs used to paint some battle tanks and also presents the troop markings of the main armoured units. Numerous illustrations and profile drawings provide valuable information and suggestions, especially for the modeller.
