In Austrian military historiography the People's Army is hardly dealt with. However, as a "transitional army" between the Habsburg army and the first federal army, it was also able to gain regional importance in Styria and contribute to the stabilisation of the country. The present work examines the period from the dismantling of the "old army" and the parallel formation of the Volkswehr to its dissolution and formation or transition into the Austrian Federal Army of the First Republic.
