General of the Infantry Kurt von Tippelskirch wrote this fundamental account of the entire course of the Second World War between 1950 and 1951. This was the first work by a German general to describe the dramatic events in the various phases of the war and in the different theatres of war in context in an easily readable, generally understandable form. Numerous generals and officers provided von Tippelskirch with their own records and helped to fill the gaps in the source material that still existed so soon after the end of the war. The factual and sober working method of the trained general staffer is reflected in this "History of the Second World War". The result is a work with a primarily descriptive, non-judgmental character, which nevertheless describes the events of the war quite deliberately from a German point of view.
