Peter the Great was Tsar and Grand Duke of Russia from 1682 to 1721, as well as the first Emperor of the Russian Empire from 1721 to 1725. He is still considered one of Russia's outstanding politicians and a great reformer. Under his leadership, a powerful and modern army was created, which formed the basis of his power politics.
