Description
Peter the Great is portrayed in his work as a military reformer as well as a commander of troops and a general. The comparison of the battles at Lesnaya and Poltava sets new accents. The Russian victory at Poltava is seen as a point of contention in contemporary Russian and Ukrainian views. The "Military Regulations of 1716" prove to be a convolute, the Petrine legislation thus more complex than previous research. With the Petrine reforms, the separation of the military from civil society became established in Russia. From the contents: Peter's campaigns and battles; Great Northern War: Azov, Narva, Schlüsselburg, Lesnaya, Poltava; Prut Campaign, Persian Campaign; War Regulations 1716: Articles of War, Code of Procedure, Retreats, Regulations on the Duty of Field Marshals General, Naval Regulations 1720/1722; Colleges, Table of Ranks, Poll Tax.
