Major Robert Rogers' force (Roger's Rangers) for wilderness warfare was formed in 1757 from battle-hardened American hunters and frontiersmen with 4 officers and 60 men as "His Majesty's Independent Companies of American Rangers" and soon grew to battalion strength.
