The Buffalo Soldiers (engl. Büffelsoldaten) was the term used by the Indians of the Great Plains to describe the soldiers of the African-American units raised by the Union Army of the Northern States at the end of the US-American Civil War (1861ľ1865). The black soldiers' curly hair reminded the Indians of the back of a buffalo, the North American bison. (Indian Wars 1865-98) - Wikipedia -
