The Buffalo Soldiers were the term used by the Indians of the Great Plains to describe the African American units raised by the Union Army of the Northern States at the end of the US-American Civil War (1861ľ1865). The black soldiers' curly hair reminded the Indians of the back of a buffalo, the North American bison. (Indian Wars 1865-98) - Wikipedia -
