Schulze, Henrik Jammerbock IV. Sowjetarmee, deutsche Streitkräfte und Konversion (1945 - 2014)

The history of the Jüterbog garrison from the Red Army at the end of the war in 1945, through the Soviet Army in the GDR to the Western Group of Troops (WGT) of the Russian Federation in the already reunified Germany. Just as in the three previous volumes of the "Jammerbock" series, each military property gets an individual presentation. This includes the areas of the military training areas with over 200 square kilometres, the airfields, the troop and supply camps as well as hidden bunker complexes for higher staffs with their intelligence networks. The conclusion is formed by the imaginative plans for the conversion of the areas that followed the withdrawal of troops up to the actual conversion measures.

From the capture of Jüterbog in April 1945 to the withdrawal of the last Russian troops in April 1994, during this period of almost 50 years, units of about ten different armies of the land and air forces can be found in the local garrison. Divided into different periods, the present work describes in detail the command structure of the units, their personnel and their armament. The political history of the stationing of the troops
is also a topic, as is the life of the soldiers and officers and their relationship to the German population. The German armed forces, insofar as they had a connection to the location, are also part of this book. The book covers everything from the barracks of the People's Police (KVP), which was deployed in Altes Lager as early as 1946 to protect the property, to a KVP training camp, to the military district command of the National People's Army (NVA) and the military district replacement office of the German Armed Forces. Included are the fighting groups of the working class and a mine search and clearing ship of the People's Navy named "Jüterbog". The role of the GDR economy in the service of national defence is also shown with examples from the city.
