This book is an attempt to describe and present the development of the camouflage patterned field service clothing (summer) of the armed organs of the GDR from about 1956-1990. The corresponding personal armament, equipment and apparatus are also roughly outlined. The early pieces up to about 1971 are treated in more detail. The subsequent field service clothing of the 1970s and 1980s as well as that of the Uniform Wear Trial (UTV) 85-90 have been summarised.
The author has illustrated the field service clothing in the order of the years of manufacture, whereby pieces of the same cut in the area camouflage pattern produced at the same time appear before those in the directional camouflage pattern. Thus, the area camouflage pattern and the directional camouflage pattern overlap. The field service clothing of the paratroopers/reconnaissance troops, the female members of the NVA and the generals were all worn at about the same time as the conventional field service clothing.
