The heavy armoured reconnaissance vehicles of the Sd.Kfz. 234 series were produced by the German armaments industry in the final phase of the Second World War. They were characterised by a high manufacturing quality that combined mobility, operational flexibility and offensive striking power. The vehicle concept represented an excellent combination of off-road mobility, protection and firepower and reflected the operational experience gained by the Wehrmacht in the first years of the war. A top speed of up to 85 km/h could be achieved on the road. Among the various versions, the Sd.Kfz. 234/1 often assumed the function of a command vehicle. Also intended for deep reconnaissance missions, it was equipped with a 20 mm KwK 30 cannon in an open turret, which could provide support fire for the infantry against lightly armoured targets.
