The JSF Joint Strike Fighter programme was intended to develop a new fifth-generation all-weather fighter intended as a valid replacement for the combat aircraft of the United States and NATO countries. The result was the single-seat Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. The Lockheed Martin is equipped with cutting-edge technology and features an aerodynamic layout with stealth technology and trapezoidal wings. Designed for air superiority missions, supporting other aircraft as well as ground attack, the initial model can be configured differently. The F-35A uses conventional runways, the F-35B is designed for vertical take-off and landing, and the F-35C is ideal for use on aircraft carriers with catapults. The extreme operational flexibility, the offensive load it can carry, the on-board technology and the strong design innovation have supported the current and future use of the F-35 A by numerous air forces.
