The 1st Battalion, and later Regiment, of Dragoons symbolises the modernisation and mechanisation of the French cavalry in the 1930s. In 1939, it was one of the best trained, most competent and most modern regiments in the army. This first book dedicated to this type of regiment covers the history of the unit, its operational doctrine, its equipment and the men who served in it, from its formation to the battles of May and June 1940. It is based on archives and eyewitness accounts, as well as over 450 rare photos from the period, maps and objects, organisational charts and colour profiles of armoured vehicles.
