This book is the only one in French about the German 11th Panzer Division, the so-called "Gespensterdivision", which was in action throughout World War 2, from the French campaign in 1940 to the icy steppes of Russia. The book is illustrated with a large number of rare photographs, some of them still unknown. In the last days of the war, its commander preferred an honourable surrender rather than send his men to certain and senseless death.
This new study looks in particular at the battles less well known to us, including those in Russia and the fighting in Provence and the Rhone Valley in the summer of 1944.
