An elaborate account of the battles of Jena and Auerstedt on 14 October 1806. Among other things, it is shown why the renewed war between France and Prussia came about, what troops the allied Prussians and Saxons as well as the French had at their disposal and, of course, how the two important battles took place and what their consequences were. The individual French corps involved in the battles (III., IV., V., VI. and VII.) and their units are described separately.
